Today, I checked the system for the music that needed to be added, to see if we had it in already. After checking, I found the CD's of the songs that needed to be added. Then came the fun part, because I needed to listen to a little bit of each song, checking to see if it fit the format. Hit Mix plays oldies, and new music that is not hard rock or rap. They will play basically everything else, including jazz, which they have a time set up for on Sundays. After listening, I import them and edit them for loudness, and I cut the little tails off of the songs. For some reason, songs have this tail of no sound at the end and sometimes beginning that is not needed. That is where I stopped for today.

Today, was the Major Fair at EIU. This is a Fair that shows upcoming students about the different departments in eastern that they can be apart of. The radio set up a booth to show the high schoolers that the radio was an option for them if they wanted. I helped set it up and answer questions that people had. Also, in some downtime I finished the charts for new music.

Today, I chose my hours for the Thanksgiving break. They needed help during the break, when the students go back to their homes, and the radio is without kids. Another thing, basketball season starts up, so they need people to cover the board while Rob is remoting in from the game. I signed up for two slots, and it covers 3 games. During the middle of 2 of the games, there will be time to DJ a little bit, giving me even more experience. After choosing my hours, I started working on the new music. I printed out the top charts from the music company that the radio uses. Then I reference the new charts with the old charts to see how many of the songs we have already and how many we can't have, and how many we need to add.

Today I worked on spots again. I enjoy doing them, but there have been a lot, so the pressure has been on to complete them quickly. I have started writing the spots that I do now, which gives me a really holistic perspective on spots. I am able to create a script that fits in with the non-commercial definition of the radio, record myself saying the script, and then finish off with editing and music. I have really started getting a knack of what music goes with what spot, because I like the music to match what it is about. That means, sometimes, having to take trips down to the other production team around the corner. They do production as a job, for local businesses and people in the community. They have a rather extensive line of production music for their and our benefit. Later on, at 5:00 p.m. I went back to the radio station to work on the Odyssey, which is their internet radio show. I brought Aaron Due along with me, to have someone to have conversations with on the air, and we ended up spending a good deal of time there. I enjoyed this time, because I was able to work on my radio timing for when I am going to work on the regular station.
